Jane is an Adjunct Professor with the Writing and Society Research Centre at the University of Western Sydney, where she was formerly a professor.

A freelance writer and critic, Jane is the author of three thrillers published by Hachette. Her scholarly books on performing arts and cultural history, include Trauma and Public Memory (Palgrave Macmillan 2015), Stage Presence (Routledge 2009) and Frankenstein's Science (Ashgate 2009); essays also reprinted in updated Norton critical edition of Frankenstein. She is the joint winner of 2009 Calibre essay prize.

Her journalistic interests are in politics, economics and cultural change. Frustrations include the national journalistic sport of missing the point.
