Janelle MacKenzie

Research Project Officer, School of Design, Queensland University of Technology

Dr MacKenzie completed her PhD at QUT in 2016. Her research investigated maternal sleepiness and the impacts of sleepiness on driving. In particular, she focused on the assessment of maternal sleep and infant sleep, as well as the psychological and social factors that contribute to sleepiness in the postpartum period. She also has a strong interest in the sleep, physical activity levels, and social development of children, particularly investigating the opportunities caregivers can provide to encourage optimal development.

Dr MacKenzie is currently a project officer in the School of Design on the ARC Linkage Project “Intergenerational Park Design for Active and Engaged Communities”. Her current research focuses on the assessment of physical activity levels and social engagement between park users, particularly children and their caregivers. She is keenly interested in contributing to the multidisciplinary research team that aims to utilise salutogenic design principles to promote the health and well-being of all members of the community.
