I studied and worked at University of Melbourne in the 1960's-early 1980's and have a Master's and Ph.D. in German literature. In the 1970's I also studied at the University of Tübingen in Germany and in Vienna.
In 1982 I joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra and subsequently worked as a diplomat in Belgrade, Hanoi, Bonn, Damascus and Lisbon (as Ambassador in the last two postings). 2004-2010 I worked in National Archives in Canberra, then retired to Beechworth in 2010.
Interests include history, poetry, classical music, politics, international relations.
