Dr. Janine Roberts is Past-President of the American Family Therapy Academy, a family therapist, professor, and mother and grandmother. Particularly relevant to this conversation is her book Rituals for Our Times: Celebrating, Healing, and Changing Our Lives and Our Relationships ((with Evan-Imber Black; Jason Aronson Press). In this book you will find many ways to rework and recreate vibrant family rituals from bedtimes and mealtimes, to engagement parties, baby namings, marking immigration and other major life transitions, divorce rituals, and end of life ceremonies (to name just a few).

Dr. Roberts is the Associate Editor for International Scholarship for Family Process and has presented nationally and internationally for decades and has lived, worked, and traveled in more than 65 countries beginning with Kuwait in 1963. For some 15 years she has trained therapists working with street children and their families in Latin America. She is the author of Tales & Transformations:  Stories in Families and Family Therapy (Norton Press) co-editor of Rituals in Families and Family Therapy (Norton Press), as well as some sixty articles and book chapters, and a book of poems, The Body Alters (Slate Roof Press).
