Senior research officer, James Cook University

Janya McCalman is a public health researcher with a health promotion practice background. Her interests include empowerment-based health improvement approaches and the implementation of health improvement programs and services. She has worked in Aboriginal Australian settings over the past 15 years, and her doctoral thesis explored the underlying processes of transferring an Aboriginal empowerment initiative across 56 places and to 3300 participants over 20yrs. Janya has expertise qualitative research including action research, systematic reviews and grounded theory.
