Inflammation and infection-induced diseases still cause immense mortality and place an enormous burden on healthcare systems, leading to unsustainable personal and societal costs. Dr Horvat’s major field of expertise is in understanding the role played by bacteria and viruses in the pathogenesis of acute and chronic inflammatory diseases such as asthma and food allergy. He has a particular interest in understanding how the immune system is altered in these allergic inflammatory conditions in order to identify and develop new therapeutic targets for the treatment and/or prevention of disease.
