Jean-Philippe Walhin

I joined the University of Bath in 2006 as a Research Officer working on a large randomised controlled trial in Type II Diabetes before completing a PhD in Human Physiology within the Department for Health were I am now a Research Fellow part of the DisAbility Sport & Health (DASH) initiative.

After studying Biochemistry in Belgium, I joined GlaxoSmithKline as an Associate Scientist where I worked for 5 years within the Genetics Research group where I specialised in Molecular Biology techniques and used Quantitative RT-PCR to analyse gene expression profiles within normal and diseased tissues.

My interests include the impact of physical activity/exercise on the gene expression profiles of adipose tissue and skeletal muscle. My research seeks to understand the mechanisms through which regular exercise and physical activity maintain health in order to reduce the risk of chronic diseases, especially in a disabled population particularly at risk.
