National President of the National Tertiary Education Union, Victoria University

Jeannie Rea is National President of the National Tertiary Education Union, a position she has held since October 2010.

She has been involved in education and union activism since her student days. Jeannie has been an active member of the NTEU since joining the university sector in 1992, holding a number of branch, state and national positions including Branch and Division President, National Executive and Education Committee member.

Jeannie teaches and researches across gender studies, public relations, public advocacy and social change. She came to her new role from the position of Deputy Dean of Arts, Education and Human Development at Victoria University in Melbourne.

A professional educator for nearly thirty years, she previously taught at a TAFE College and also worked for the Technical Teachers Union of Victoria, coordinating publications and publicity.

Throughout her life, Jeannie has worked for access, equity and quality education for all in Australia and internationally.
