Jennifer Ring

Jennifer Ring has been at the University of Nevada, Reno since 1996 when she was appointed Director of Women's Studies and associate professor of Political Science. She received her Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley, and her B.A. from UCLA. She taught at University of California Berkeley, Stanford University, Columbia Universit, and the University of South Carolina, prior to her arrival at UNR. Dr. Ring's teaching fields include Classical Greek and Modern European Political Theory (with specialization in Marxism and its German predecessors), American Political Theory, Women and Politics (with an emphasis on race and gender), Feminist Theory and Race and Gender Identity in the United States.

She is the author of the forthcoming A Game of Their Own: Voices of Contemporary Women in Baseball. Her most recent book, Stolen Bases: Why American Girls Don’t Play Baseball was published by the University of Illinois Press in 2009. She is also the author of The Political Consequences of Thinking: Gender and Judaism in the Work of Hannah Arendt (1997); Modern Political Theory and Contemporary Feminism: A Dialectical Analysis (1991); articles on Marxism, liberal theory, feminist epistemology, race and gender, Hannah Arendt, and sports sociology which have appeared in The American Journal of Political Science, The Review of Politics, Political Theory, Women and Politics, and the Journal of Sport and Social Issues; and chapters in collected volumes in political theory, Holocaust Studie, and women and politics.
