Jill E. Kelly is Associate Professor of History at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, USA. She is the author of To Swim with Crocodiles: Land, Authority, and Belonging in South Africa, 1800-1996 (Michigan State University Press, 2018 and University of KwaZulu-Natal Press, 2019). Her work has also appeared in African Historical Review, Journal of Southern African Studies, and the edited collection Gendering Ethnicity in African Women’s Lives (University of Wisconsin Press). Her research has been supported by the American Council of Learned Societies (2015) and Fulbright (2010-2011, 2018-2019). She earned her PhD in History with Michigan State University in 2012.
