Director, Thompson Institute, University of the Sunshine Coast

Professor Jim Lagopoulos is the Director of USC's Thompson Institute. He has been involved with mental health research for more than 25 years and has established and run programs across three research centres. Professor Lagopoulos is passionate about translating research discoveries into real-word treatments and his research delves into novel approaches to treating mental health conditions. In this regard Professor Lagopoulos regularly accepts international speaking invitations on topics including new mental health care models and the use of neuroimaging for precision treatment of mental health disorders. As a researcher he has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles in some of the highest-ranking international journals. Professor Lagopoulos also undertakes considerable community engagement work which forms an integral component of The Alliance Suicide Prevention program he founded in 2017. In 2021 Professor Lagopoulos graduated from the Leadership in Medicine program at Harvard Medical School, and in the same year was admitted as a Fellow into the Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences.
