Jo-Anne Baird

Jo-Anne Baird is the Pearson Professor of Educational Assessment and Director of the Oxford University Centre for Educational Assessment.

Before coming to OUCEA, Jo-Anne was Professor of Education and Coordinator of the Centre for Assessment and Learning Studies at the University of Bristol.

Jo-Anne previously held the position of Head of Research at the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance, where she managed the research programme and was responsible for the standard-setting systems for public examinations. She was also a Lecturer at the Institute of Education in London. Her first degree and doctorate were in psychology and she has an MBA. Jo-Anne is a Visiting Professor at Queen’s University, Belfast.

Jo-Anne’s research interests include examination standards, policy and systemic aspects of assessment, e-assessment and human judgment in assessment. She is a Fellow of the Association of Educational Assessment – Europe. In 2007, she co-edited the QCA-commissioned book, Techniques for monitoring the comparability of examinations. Jo-Anne is actively involved in the development of many assessment policies and practices, including some of the following roles in recent years: OECD Technical Review Panel, International Test Commission guideline reviewer, member of Pearson Assessment Expert Panel, DCSF Independent Advisor to the Expert Group, Member of the DCSF 14-19 Expert Group, member of the Single Level Test Evaluation Group, NAA Independent Advisor on national curriculum standard setting, Chair of the Ofqual Technical Advisory Group for their research programme on examination reliability. She is Lead Editor of the international research journalAssessment in Education: Principles, policy and practice.
