Honorary Professor of Public Policy, Centre for Public Policy for Regions, University of Glasgow

Jo Armstrong is an independent economist and researcher at Glasgow University's Centre for Public Policy for Regions (CPPR) and an honorary professor of public policy at the university's Adam Smith Business School. She is chair of ENABLE Scotland, a board member of Social Investment Scotland and runs her own economics consultancy, JA Analysis. Armstrong worked as a senior civil servant in the then Scottish Executive in the early 2000s, providing financial advice in a number of policy areas most notably the transfer of Glasgow’s social housing to the Glasgow Housing Association.

Having spent more than 25 years as a professional economist in the public and private sectors, Armstrong's career started in Scotland’s oil & gas sector and she went on to be the energy economist with RBS. She has managed business economics teams and has worked in structured finance in both London and Edinburgh.
