John Carter McKnight

Research Associate, Department of Sociology, Lancaster University

John Carter McKnight is a media and communications scholar with a PhD in Human & Social Dimensions of Science and Technology​ from Arizona State University. His research focuses on the role of social media platforms (particularly user interfaces and experience design) in shaping collective identities, espeically national, class, and gender.

He is currently a postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Sociology at Lancaster University in the U.K. He is working on the Third Party Dematerialization and Rematerialization of Capital project on peer-to-peer finance communities in the UK.

He has developed and taught a range of graduate and undergraduate courses in media and globalization, gamification and the quantified self, and the governance of emerging technologies.
