Jose Victor Torres

Associate Professor of History, De La Salle University

Historian, essayist, freelance magazine writer and an award-winning playwright, JOSE VICTOR Z. TORRES is an associate professor of the History Department at the De La Salle University-Manila (DLSU-Manila) and Associate Director for Drama and History at the Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center also in DLSU.

He has a Ph.D. in History from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila. He is the author and editor of several books on history and theater. His book, Ciudad Murada: A Walk Through Historic Intramuros won the National Book Award for Travel Writing in 2006.

In 2012, he won a Special Jury Prize at the Premio Tomas: The UST Quadricentennial Literary Prize – Essay Category (Premio Mabini) for his work about the University of Santo Tomas during World War II.

In 2014, he was also an awardee of the Outstanding Alumni Category in the Field of History by the UST Graduate School during its 75th Founding Anniversary Celebration.
