Associate professor, University of Sydney

Joyce joined the University of Sydney in 2010 and is an associate professor in Chinese media studies. Before coming to Sydney, she has had more than 20 years of experience in journalism teaching, research and practice as assistant professor and journalist (in television, radio, newspapers and magazine) mainly in Hong Kong. In 2013-4, Joyce was a visiting associate professor at the University of Hong Kong, collaborating on research on China’s social media. In 2004-5, she was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the University of Maryland, College Park, US, researching on public journalism.

She is a member of the editorial boards of Digital Journalism and Journalism Practice.

Joyce has been a judge for a number of journalism awards for over 20 years, including the Awards for Editorial Excellence organized by the Society of Publishers in Asia, the Human Rights Press Awards, the Consumer Rights Reporting Awards in Hong Kong, and the Web Citizen Awards of Hong Kong.
