I am a Professor in the Department of Linguistics and English Language at Lancaster University. My media topics include:
- young children's use of technologies, in homes and schools
- children's literacy practices
- early twentieth century postcard writing and comparisons with social media
- Twitter, including in connection with cricket

My books include "Digital Literacies" (Routledge, 2014). I direct The Edwardian Postcard Project. I'm co-editor of the Journal of Early Childhood Literacy and co-chair of an EU programme working group in the Digital literacies of young children in homes and communities.
