Associate Professor, Faculty of Social Work, University of Manitoba

Dr. Kathryn Levine is an Associate Professor with the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Manitoba.

As a practicing social worker in the areas of child welfare, child and adolescent mental health, and school social work, she observed how trauma emerged as the consistent theme in the lives of children, adolescents, and their families.

Her research focus subsequently shifted to examine ways in which adopting a trauma-informed lens can work to improve educational outcomes of at-risk youth including children in care of the child welfare system.

Other research interests include examining how trauma-informed practice can promote healing with women with who are challenged by intellectual disabilities, substance addiction, and criminal justice involvement, and applying a trauma-informed lens to women’s experiences with problem gambling.
