Kiersten Muenchinger

Tim and Mary Boyle Chair in Material Studies and Product Design, University of Oregon

Kiersten Muenchinger is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Product Design at the University of Oregon. Muenchinger researches the intersection of materials and design, and her current research quantifies consumer perceptions of polymer sustainability. Her experimental sustainable design work has been exhibited with the Green Product Award, Germany; ShowPDX, Portland; and Salão Design, Brazil. In 2016, she was a Fulbright scholar in Industrial Systems Engineering at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She received the Sustainable Impact Practice Award in entrepreneurial education from VentureWell in 2018. Kiersten was the Industrial Designers Society of America’s (IDSA) Young Educator of the Year in 2011, and one of the Design Intelligence 30 Most Admired Educators for 2015.

Before joining UO, Kiersten was a design engineer with IDEO, Fitch, Sottsass Associatti, Walt Disney Imagineering, and the Long Now Foundation.
