Dr. Naran received her undergraduate training from The University of the Witwatersrand (WITS), majoring in microbiology & biotechnology and genetics & developmental biology (2006). Her postgraduate specialization in molecular and cell biology (Hons & MSc) was completed at WITS, while she received her PhD in medical microbiology from the University of Cape Town (2007 – 2015) – strengthening her expertise in the research area of preclinical tuberculosis (TB) drug discovery.

Subsequently, Dr. Naran reformed her research expertise to cancer immunotherapy and as such, she is the Head of Antibody Engineering at UCT’s Medical Biotechnology and Immunotherapy (MBI) Unit. She coordinates the R&D of MBI’s 20-member team and is instrumental in establishing bilateral collaborations with international researchers.
