Honorary Research Associate, University of Cape Town

I'm an Honorary Research Associate at the Centre for Transport Studies, UCT and a co-founder of non-profit Open Streets Cape Town.

I'm a civil engineer by training and original profession, with a Masters degree in urban management. My PhD drew on Science and Technology Studies, and Sociology of Scientific Knowledge writers. I'm interested in the material semiotics and politics of streets. In particular I'm interested in hidden engineering or planning practices and how people, systems and things do their valuing work in our world. I'm curious about how ways of valuing get reproduced and embedded in cities: the stubborn-ness of some human and social values and the transience of others.
