Senior research fellow, UNSW Sydney

Lori has been working in road safety for more than 20 years. She worked as a senior road safety policy and program manager for the RTA, NSW from 1989 until 2000, ultimately filling the role of General Manager, Road Safety. And in 1998 presided over the NSW government road safety program that achieved the lowest road fatality record since 1949. The road safety strategy she developed for the years 2000-2010 achieved road levels that rival the world’s best performing countries.

Lori Mooren holds a Masters degree in Social Science from Dalhousie University, Canada, and a She holds a Masters degree in Social Science from Dalhousie University, Canada, and a Bachelors degree in Sociology and Government from Eastern Washington University, USA.

She is now accredited as a Registered Road Safety Professional by the Australasian College of Road Safety, signifying recognition by her peers of her outstanding achievements in road safety

Lori is a member of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC), and Transport & Storage Industry Reference Group of WorkCover NSW. She is also a Member of the US Transportation Research Board’s Truck and Bus Safety Committee, and Co-Chair of the Alternative Compliance Sub-Committee.

In her role at the University of NSW, she has established a research program that aims to develop and test safety management systems and interventions to improve work related road safety, particularly in heavy vehicle transport operations.
