Associate Professor of Social Work, The University of Melbourne

Lou Harms is Associate Professor and Deputy Head in the Department of Social Work at The University of Melbourne. She is also the Associate Dean (Equity, Diversity and Staff Development) for the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. She is the coordinator of the Trauma Recovery and Resilience Research Program within the Department of Social Work.

Lou's research is focused on people affected by a range of traumatic life experiences, including health crises and disasters in particular. Her studies focus on understanding the interactions of stress, trauma and loss
responses with resilience and growth responses, at individual, family and community levels.

Lou has published her research widely in national and international journals. She is also the author of ten books published by Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press and Palgrave Macmillan UK. These books focus on theories and skills for practice, integrating trauma, grief and resilience perspectives.
