Lynden Griggs came to academia from private practice. He is admitted, though not currently practising, as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Courts of Tasmania and the Federal Courts of Australia (including the High Court of Australia) and has been an accredited mediator. He completed a research masters in corporate law, and his current research focus is land law. He has also occupied a number of administrative positions including Deputy Dean and Associate Dean Teaching and Learning. He is also a fellow of the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia. He is currently undertaking a PhD in Published Works with Bond University. The focus of this PhD is the Torrens system of land registration.
