I am an associate professor in the Chancellor's Faculty Excellence Program for Leadership in Public Science. I am interested in understanding how animals respond to human-driven changes in their habitats, and in finding ways to reconcile human development with biodiversity conservation. As a public intellectual, I work to lower barriers for public engagement in science through participation in all aspects of the scientific enterprise, and in making science a core part of culture and public discourse.
