Maggie Callingham

PhD candidate at the Victoria Institute for Education, Diversity and Lifelong Learning, Victoria University

As an educator, my awareness of social and economic disadvantages that serve as barriers to children’s engagement with education has increased. Over 30 years I have worked in a variety of educational and community settings, in paid and volunteer work, to engage young people from contexts of disadvantage, and their families, with education and learning.

My research interest is in ways schools can better engage young people who are marginalised in conventional schooling.
