Honorary Professor, DVCE Portfolio, Deakin University

I currently lead course renewal at Deakin University. I am particularly interested in developing digital literacies as sustainable professional practice and in mindfulness based resilience education and its intersection with technologies and digital life. I worked as a journalist, editor and journalism academic prior to working in curriculum development and renewal at the University of Wollongong. My PhD looked at apocalyptic narratives and the war on terror, analysing connections between fact based current affairs narratives and popular film and television drama. My media studies research interest include convergent, social and online media, media narratives and myth, journalism and popular culture, literary journalism and creative non-fiction, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. I worked for a journalist and editor for fifteen years specialising in arts journalism before taking up editorial positions in gay and lesbian publications. I was editor of Sydney Star Observer 1999-2006.
