Before joining the HSRC, Ms Visser worked at the National Department of Education where she was primarily responsible for developing, maintaining and analysing Education Management Information databases and the compiling of statistical reports on education information.

Ms Visser's research expertise lies in the areas of planning and management of surveys, design of research instruments, database design and management, data mining, and data analysis. She has undertaken projects for organisations such as the National Department of Education, the Gauteng Department of Education, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the National Department of Labour.

Recent publications include the report on the 1999 Attendance Survey of Schools in Gauteng. She has also contributed to many publications by developing and compiling output reports from databases.

She holds an honours degree in mathematics from the University of Pretoria. She is pursuing a Master's degree titled "TOWARDS DEVELOPING AN EVALUATION TOOL FOR BUSINESS MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS’ SUCCESS AT PUBLIC FURTHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING (FET) COLLEGES IN SOUTH AFRICA"
