I publish and teach on the process of economic development in low and middle income countries. My research interests are: Growth-inequality-poverty triangle; Agricultural transformation, food security and structural change; Prospects for and experiences of sustainable economic catching up in East and Southeast Asia, Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa; Regional growth and inequality in Taiwan; Institutional and evolutionary perspectives on the growth process; Social capabilities and resilience to economic shrinking.
