Head of Technology Development, Earlham Institute

Matt is the Head of Technology Development at the Earlham Institute, with responsibility to evaluate and test new technology platforms as well as develop data types. Matt leads several taskforces and projects, which involves development of strategies, managing and directing the outputs (e.g. publications) across groups within EI. Matt also shares his knowledge outside of EI, consulting on technology with government bodies, companies and NGOs.

Matt joined EI in 2010 from the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute as the Sequencing Technology Development team leader, in 2013 he became Plant and Microbial Genomics group leader, and in 2015 Head of Technology Development. Matt has a strong genomics, genetic, molecular biology and technology background. At EI he has developed new technologies and pipelines that provide unique capabilities within the UK through TGAC’s National Capability. One such technology has processed nearly 250,000 samples, underpins 3 large international genome projects, and has helped bring in over £1million of funding at TGAC to date.
