Matthew completed a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition in 2008 and a Postgraduate Diploma of Dietetics in 2009, at Curtin University, Perth. He is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and worked in Perth for several years as a clinical dietitian, including a period in the position of senior clinical dietitian at Royal Perth Hospital. In 2012, he returned to Curtin University where he completed an honours degree looking at diet and brain barrier dysfunction. In 2014, he relocated to Melbourne and completed a Postgraduate Diploma of Biotechnology at Swinburne University. In 2015, Matthew commenced his PhD at Baker IDI Heart & Diabetes Institute investigating the effects of a processed diet on gut homeostasis and the contribution that these changes make to the development of diabetic kidney disease.
He is a regular science presenter at Laneway Learning in Melbourne and has run science classes during National Science Week and Melbourne Knowledge Week.
