Michael Byrne is a Professor of Psychology and Computer Science at Rice University and the area chair of the Human Factors/Human-Computer Interaction program in the Department of Psychology. His primary research areas are usability of technological systems and mathematical/computational models of human cognition and performance. This includes basic scientific work on theories of human cognition and performance and applied usability testing efforts, particularly in the area of voting. His research has been funded by the NSF, NASA, the Office of Naval Research, and NIST.
