Michael Cortie was born and educated in South Africa, where he obtained a BSc(Engineering), an MSc and a PhD, all in materials engineering. He was a consultant to the the minerals and metals industry there for 15 years before he relocated to Australia in 2002. After nearly 20 years at the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia Michael is now a semi-retired consultant. He is interested in the technology of precious metals, nanotechnology, the interaction of light with nanostructures and anything to do with X-rays and neutrons.
