Michael Hogan is a Distinguished Professor of History at the University of Illinois at Springfield, concentrating on 20th-century U.S. political and diplomatic history. His research interests include early years of the Cold War and the transition on the home front from World War II to the postwar era.

Hogan's published work include: Explaining the History of American foreign Relations and America in the World: The Historiography of American Foreign Relations since 1941, with co-editor Frank Costiqliolawas.
