Herter Professor of American Foreign Policy at The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and the author of The Meaning of Sports: Why Americans Watch Baseball, Football, and Basketball and What They See When They Do. He has written 10 books on American foreign policy and edited 12 more. He co-authored That Used to Be Us: How America Fell Behind in the World It Invented and How We Can Come Back with The New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman.
