Michel works as a senior research fellow in the School of Chemical Sciences and based in the Photon Factory at the University of Auckland. Her research focuses on using light in the visible, near-infrared and infrared regions to analyze the molecules in different materials, mainly using the techniques Near-infrared (NIR), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy. In particular, she is interested in measuring skin quality, skin diseases and skin cancers using these techniques. She relishes the opportunity to apply these spectroscopy techniques in collaborative projects with enthusiastic undergraduate students and colleagues in the Art History department on the beautiful Chemistry project, as well as art conservators in the Art Gallery Toi a Tamaki.
