Michele Barnes

Michele is an Associate Professor at James Cook University in Townsville, Australia. She holds a PhD in Natural Resources and Environmental Management and a Graduate Certificate in Ocean Policy from the University of Hawaii. Michele has disciplinary expertise in sociology, economics, and social network science. Her research broadly focuses on the social-structural foundations of grand environmental challenges, particularly climate change adaptation and marine and coastal governance. Michele often works with other social scientists, ecologists, biologists, mathematicians, policymakers, and conservation and development practitioners; and she has active field sites in Hawaii, Kenya, Papua New Guinea, and Australia.
