Lecturer in Criminology, Queen's University Belfast

My interests include imprisonment, penal reform, restorative justice and criminological psychology.

I have been involved in a number of research projects examining prison violence, the service and support needs of young people on remand, fear of crime, equality and disciplinary issues in prison, parental imprisonment, the experiences of vulnerable individuals in the criminal justice system and the prison reform programme in Northern Ireland.

Currently, I am investigating how the management of political imprisonment can impact on the conditions experienced by non-political prisoners, penal policies, reform efforts and the prioritisation of resources, using the Northern Ireland Prison Service as an in-depth case study.
