Natalia Lawrence

Associate Professor in Translational Medicine, University of Exeter

Natalia is a cognitive neuroscientist who has a background in experimental psychology, behavioural neuroscience and clinical research. She combines brain imaging and experimental psychology methods to study emotional processing in a range of psychological disorders.

Interests:
Compulsive behaviour and mood disorders: Why do some people lose control over their behaviour and emotions? Can cognitive training strengthen control over habitual or impulsive behaviour and maladaptive emotional responses?

Role:
Senior Lecturer in Translational Medicine. I conduct neuro-cognitive research into the mechanisms underlying altered emotional processing in psychological disorders and use this knowledge to help understand and develop psychological interventions. For example, I am currently examining whether response inhibition training can reduce ‘addictive’ behaviour such as over-eating
