Senior Lecturer, The University of Melbourne

Dr Neema Nassir is a civil engineer whose work on transport systems and emerging intelligent transport technology has informed planning and policy in the USA and UK. He views the emergence of disruptive technologies – such as self-driving vehicles and shared and connected mobility systems – as a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to enhance the efficiency, sustainability and equity of transport systems. Intellectually, he has a flair for connecting the dots, for seeing the broader context and ever-deeper layers of interactivity. That style favours a multi-disciplinary, collaborative research approach that infuse his modelling and simulation work with valuable depth and complexity, including of user experiences, planning principles and policy. He joined the University of Melbourne Department of Infrastructure Engineering as a Lecturer in October 2018 relocating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA.
