Chair of the Policing Institute for the Eastern Region, Anglia Ruskin University

Nick Alston joined the University as Chair of Policing Institute for the Eastern Region (PIER) where his role is to help establish PIER as the academic and research partner of choice for the police forces in Eastern Region of England.

He was previously the first elected Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex, a role he took on after a long career first as a senior British Government security official and latterly managing security for the international investment bank Goldman Sachs.

As a Police and Crime Commissioner he chaired the board of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners and also the Board of the Police ICT Company.

Nick read Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, from where he was commissioned into the Royal Navy. He was appointed CBE in the 1997 New Year's Honors list.
