Nicole Estefania Cabrera Salazar

Graduate Research Fellow in Astronomy, Georgia State University

I'm an astronomy PhD student at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. For my thesis, I'm studying how feasible it is to find exoplanets around "young" Sun-like stars, which are extremely magnetically active. To do this, I'm using two ground-based telescopes: the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF) in Hawaii and the 193cm Telescope at the Observatoire de Haute Provence in France.

As an immigrant from Chile and first generation college student, I'm also very passionate about diversifying the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). My hope is to encourage young women and minorities to pursue careers in STEM, because science has much to gain from diverse perspectives!
