Nikos Georgantzis

Professor, Director of the Wine and Spirits Business Lab, Burgundy School of Business

Director of the Wine & Spirits Business Lab and Professor of Experimental Economics at the Burgundy School of Business, (School of Wine & Spirits Business).

Between October 2013 and September 2017, he has been Professor of Behavioural Economics in the School of Agriculture Policy and Development at the University of Reading. He studied Economics at the University of Piraeus and he has an MPhil from the University of Wales (UC Swansea) and an MA and PhD from the European University Institute (Florence, Italy).

Previously, he obtained a Chair in Economic Theory and Experimental Economics at the Universitat Jaume I (Castellón, Spain), becoming the co-founder of one of the largest experimental economics labs in Europe and the world, the Laboratorio de Economía Experimental (LEE), hosting a research team of 25 full time members. Between 2008 and 2013, he had been awarded a Research Excellence Chair (Investigador de Reconocida Valía) by the local government of Andalusia at the University of Granada, where he also founded the experimental economics lab «AIGAIO». He is a founding member of the academic Spinoff, Experimentia Consulting SL, which has been awarded two nation-wide prizes (2003 and 2006) for business creation proposals.

Before starting an academic career, he joined the EU Commission, DGIV (Competition Policy, Unit A3 Economic Questions and Studies). For over 10 years, he has been the director of two PhD programs (Castellón and Granada) and has been a visiting professor in various universities (Crete, Cyprus, Paris II, Economics U. in Bratislava, Chapman, Autónoma de Colombia, U. Nacional in Bogotá, etc.). He has acted as a principal investigator for over 20 research projects funded by national and private organizations in Spain, the UK and the EU.

Research interests range over a broad spectrum of topics, including Wine Economics, Economic Psychology, Microeconomics, Industrial Organization, Behavioural Economics, Labour Economics, Environmental Economics, to name a few. He has been the main supervisor of 22 (completed) doctoral theses, whose authors have received first placements in prestigious institutions, like the London School of Economics, University of Warwick, Leicester University, Kiel Universität, Universitá di Bologna, Innsbruck, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Universidad de Salamanca, etc.

Published work includes over 80 articles in journals like Research Policy, Games and Economic Behavior, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Scientific Reports, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Journal of Economic Psychology, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Regional Science and Urban Economics, Journal of Economics and Management Strategy, Ecological Economics, Environmental and Resource Economics, etc. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Economics and Academic Editor for PLOS One and acts regularly as a referee to a large number of economics, psychology, informatics, applied mathematics and social sciences journals. He has also been a member of several external evaluation committees for UK degrees and Greek university departments.
