Emeritus Professor of Education, Victoria University

An experienced teacher educator, Pat’s interests lie in supporting research and teaching in practice. Originally a mathematics teacher and a trained statistician, Pat veered towards social science when small-scale projects about what people do in practice thwarted the use of statistical techniques. She writes about emotional labour at work, the educational experiences of women and girls, mathematics education particularly assessment, STEM, doing research as an insider, and teacher education generally.

Pat took the lead on STEM Education Strategic Initiatives at Victoria University from 2015-17. Before that she was Dean of Education for three years and it was during that time that she developed a rigorous approach to self-narration using email as data.
