Reader in Sports Performance, Liverpool John Moores University

I’m currently a Reader at Liverpool John Moores University. I'm a BASES accredited Sports Scientist with Chartered (CSci) status with the Science Council. I typically conduct translational work within an elite football setting that bridges the gap between cutting edge research and professional practice (e.g. not just research for research sake but work that adds value to the applied setting). This work uses a systematic scientific approach to optimising team performance through refining monitoring and training modes. In addition to working as a consultant to elite clubs I’m also very proactive in working with medical staff within this setting as part of their CPD through research supervision (MSc/PhD).

I have published >60 peer reviewed papers in the science of football area acquiring >2300 citations and one of the book authors of ‘Fitness in Soccer: The Science and Practical Application’.
