Pia Varsamis is a PhD candidate in the Metabolic and Vascular Physiology laboratory at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute and the Department of Physiology at Monash University. She completed her BExSSc(Hons) in 2015 on the topic of “Combined effects of exercise and sugar-sweetened beverage consumption on microvascular function in healthy males" in the School of Exercise Science at the Australian Catholic University. She is currently completing her second year of her PhD in the area of sugary drinks, prolonged sitting and glucose control under the primary supervision of Professor Bronwyn Kingwell and Co-supervisors Professor David Dunstan, Professor Neville Owen and Dr. Megan Grace.
