Raquel Ortega-Argilés

Currently, Raquel Ortega-Argilés holds the Chair in Regional Economic Development at the department of Strategy and International Business and the City-REDI research institute at Birmingham Business School, The University of Birmingham, UK. Her current research work focuses Productivity, Innovation, Regional development, SMEs, entrepreneurship and industrial dynamics and on regional and European Policy.

Previously, Raquel was a Rosalind Franklin Research Fellow and an assistant professor at the department of Global Economics and Management in the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands; a postdoctoral researcher at the IN+ Center for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research of the Instituto Superior Técnico (Lisbon, Portugal); a researcher at the IPTS, Joint Research Center of the European Commission (Seville, Spain), a senior research fellow in the Entrepreneurship, Growth and Public Policy group at the Max-Planck Institute of Economics (Jena, Germany) and a junior researcher at the Regional Quantitative Analysis research group of the University of Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain). She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Barcelona. At Barcelona Raquel taught Statistics courses to Economics, Business Administration and Sociology undergraduate students, and at Groningen Raquel taught intermediate and advanced econometrics to Bachelor and Masters students in economics and business. Raquel has also been a visiting scholar at the Norwegian School of Management.

Her work has been published in international journals such as Canadian Journal of Economics, Journal of Productivity Analysis, Empirical Economics, Research Policy, Annals of Regional Science, Investigaciones Regionales, Science and Public Policy, Small Business Economics, Regional Studies, Oxford Review of Economic Policy, Contemporary Economic Policy, Science and Public Policy and in refereed books on innovation, European policy or regional economic development topics.
