Reader in Modern Literature, University of Leeds

The main focus of my research and teaching interest is modern literature and especially the work of James Joyce and selected contemporary British novelists. As well as a wide variety of articles and conference papers in these and other areas, I've published four books on Joyce: Cambridge, 1985), James Joyce: A Postculturalist Perspective (Macmillan, 1992), Joyce, "Penelope" and the Body (Rodopi, 2006) and, most recently, the 450-page Companion To James Joyce from Blackwell (2008).

I've recently published on Ian McEwan in Critical Survey and on Eavan Boland in Stand. Recent book contributions on Bob Dylan appeared in Do you Mr Jones? Bob Dylan with the Poets and Professors (Pimlico, 2003) and The Political Art of Bob Dylan (Palgrave, 2004, reprinting 2009).
