Richard Harper research is in the social aspects of interfaces with computer systems - not just the 'gui' but the architectures that underscore the gui; not just efficiency with systems but the social connections they enable and much else beside.
His books include Texture - 'Human expression in the age of communications overload' (MIT: 2011), 'The Myth of the Paperless Office' (with A. Sellen, MIT: 2002), and 'Trust, Computing and Society' (Ed) (CUP: 2014).
He is currently Professor of Computer Science and Communications and Co-Director of the Institute for Social Futures at the University of Lancaster.
