Richard McCulloch

Senior Lecturer in Media and Film, University of Huddersfield

Richard McCulloch is Senior Lecturer in Media and Film, and joined the University of Huddersfield in January 2016. He has held previous appointments at five other UK universities, and earned his PhD in Film and Television Studies from the University of East Anglia.

His research is concerned with the relationship between media industries and their audiences, and he has published widely on audience reception, fandom, and entertainment brands.

He is the co-editor (with William Proctor) of Disney's Star Wars: Forces of Production, Promotion and Reception (University of Iowa Press, 2019), which won the 2020 BAFTSS award for Best Edited Collection. His most recent book (also with William Proctor) is entitled The Scandinavian Invasion: Nordic Noir and Beyond (Peter Lang, 2023), and he is currently writing a monograph on Pixar Animation Studios and the politics of reputation.
